Mr. Cyril Ong is an avid and passionate road cycling athlete and community instructor, even at the age of 70. Despite enduring multiple road accidents, Mr. Ong recovered quickly and returned to cycling after a month. For the past year, Mr. Ong has been offering free cycling lessons to children, youth and senior members of the community to help reduce avoidable incidents in Singapore’s cycling lanes under the National Park Connector trail.

Mr. Ong has also volunteered with The Helping Hand to fundraise for their annual Ride to Raise fundraising event, and to create a cycling interest group to help residents on their restoration journey in regaining their self-confidence, self-esteem through recreational road cycling. Mr. Ong also volunteers for the Cycling Without Age (CWA) organization to promote and support the occupation of trishaw riders in Singapore. This club, Mr. Ong brought seniors from old folks out to different parks in Singapore, as well as youths with special needs from MINDS Me Too Club.

In 2018, Mr. Ong joined the community of gardeners in the Hibiscus Community Garden. As an
avid gardener, he has built equipment and plant shelters for senior residents who expressed
interest in gardening, and conductive extensive training sessions to help elderly

Mr. Cyril Ong is a pioneer of promise as he supports social organizations such as The Helping Hand and Cycling Without Age. In his drive and passion to promote the love of cycling and the outdoors, Mr. Ong has tried to spread joy in the community.

Mr Cyril Ong was nominated for the “Pioneer of Promise” Category for the SSH Awards 2021. He was the selected winner and received award from Guest of Honour: Mr. Lawrence Wong – Minister for Financeat Shangri-La Hotel on 28th August 2021.
